There has got to be a vegetarian sausage ball recipe out there... I mean, it's really just spicey cheesy bread, right?
Does anyone have a recipe for no-meat sausage balls?
I don't even think you'd need fake sausage in it - in fact, I'm sure it'd be better without the fake sausage.

| Vegetarian Cravings? |

Do you ever miss anything?
Actually going veggie was very easy for me as I was never a great meat lover.
I've been vegetarian for 15 years and I only occasionally think of two things: KFC chicken (not the actual chicken, the secret spice coating, wish KFC would fry me up a sweetcorn on the cob!) Black pudding (an Irish foodstuff, if you don't know what black pudding is, I doubt you want to!)
I never liked bacon but I understand the substitutes (fake bacon) so far aren't very good? Is there anything else you wish was better?

| Top Peta Protests....yeah. |
[16 Dec 2009|01:52am] |
Long time commenter, first time poster.
I know Peta is a touchy subject for many vegetarians, including myself. It comes down to whether you support or don't support them more or less these days. Whether its the way they do their protests or what they go against or whatever other silly thing this new PETA does. I've personally never been for this new PETA but I know several posters enjoy them so figured I'd pop this on here as it's journal related in a way.
Anyhow I was poking around on Stumbleupon and happened across a post on Upi.com about the top 10 PETA protests which was about the protests Peta has done(mostly of late) to get the message out there of animal abuse and other things.
It can be found here: www.upi.com/News_Photos/Entertainment/Top-10-PETA-protests-of-the-decade/2624/1/
Its a picture show with minor details on what the protest in the photo was about. Sort of neat with some of the stuff they have but also some pretty "WTF" things. Just wanting to know everyone's opinions on these postings and protest.
My biggest irk in the thing would be the comment on the 11th photo:
"We look forward to what sort of wacky, zany, and sexy campaigns PETA has in store for the next decade. Whatever they are, you can count on us to be there!"
It's an innocent comment I'm sure but I'm just saddened that PETA protests have had to become dubbed "sexy" to get their message across (unlike their crazy, in your face antics try ) . I get it. Sex Sells. But honestly, who are we really doing this for?

| MMMM much better |

Hey everyone! I am a 6-7 month proud veg head and this is my first post here. I always used to get the Broccoli and cheese bites (morningstar) and they are really good. But recently Acme stopped getting them, 'who knows maybe everyone buys them before I get a chance to'. The only thing they had left were the artichoke and spinach bites, so my mom got me those when I wasn't able to go to the store with her. And they are WAYYY better than the broccoli ones. Just wondering if anyone was too repulsed to to try them. I love to try new foods so I had no problem ripping that box open and putting them in the oven heehee. I sorta am just giving you my recommendation to try them if you like the broccoli ones.

| Lost Vegetarian |
[10 Dec 2009|05:52pm] |
Okay... so I quit eating meat for health reasons... then it turned into a spiritual thing (I kept thinking I was already depressed enough I didn't need the bad juju of dead carcus in my life also)... and then it turned into an environmental thing for me...
And now..
well..
Now I just don't eat meat because I'd feel like it was a step back instead of forward if I started to eat it again.
I'm lost. I can't even answer why I don't eat meat when people ask me, because I just don't care about any of the issues any more.
I kind of want to eat some meat again... but like I've already mentioned, I'd think of it as a step backwards instead of forwards... and I have this incredibly freakish fear that it'll burn my taste buds or my soul will burn for it. I'll feel like the biggest hipocrite EVER.
lol
Anyway.. I guess I'm writing to see if anyone has gone more than 8 years without eating meat and started eating it again. How did you tell your family you were eating meat again?
And for those who still don't eat meat, have you ever felt like you've lost you're reasons like I have? When you did, what kept you grounded in your decision to not eat meat?
I'm pregnant for the 2nd time in two years. In the first pregnancy, I didn't produce any milk to breastfeed and I'm kind of wondering if lack of protein might have been the culprit. However, the smarter side of me says it wasn't since I did produce a healthy child.
*shrugs*
Also kind of wonder if it's these new hormones are causing these weird cravings for meat. I don't really like the meat substitutes.
I'll stop ranting now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

| Recipe search |
[09 Dec 2009|05:56pm] |
Before I went vegetarian we used to have family dinners every night, where we would all eat pretty much the same thing together. But now, everything I eat is very different to what my family has at dinner time, and sometimes that can get really uncomfortable (especially since my mum doesnt approve of my choice at all)
So I am on the hunt for some recipes for both meat-eaters and vegetarians that use many of the same ingredients so that I feel like I fit in a little more at dinner times or atleast some recipes that LOOK similar to some meat dishes.
Thank you

| Trader Joe's |

So -- I just found out we have a Trader Joe's about an hour away from me. I run my local food pantry and I noticed some Trader Joe's stuff on the pantry shelf this morning. That sparked my memory, because I know I've seen TJ's mentioned on here several times in recent weeks. I visited the webpage and found one in Milwaukee, WI. I live roughly an hour to the north. Sooooo -- I think I'm going to drag my husband there this weekend.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of products to snatch up there. I've never been to a Trader Joe's before. So. I need you to point out some of the best super-yummy things! Also -- just wondering how TJ's compares price-wise to a regular chain grocery store. (If you're in the Midwest, think Piggly Wiggly, Copps, or Pick n Save) I guess I don't have a clue if this trip is going to break my wallet. And my budget is fairly eensy. Especially with Christmas season upon us and still having several gifts to buy.
What say you veg*n's?
